 Teaching

Some of my professors opened my eyes. They helped me see the philosophical landscape clearer than I had before, which simultaneously revealed that I wasn’t where I wanted to be (philosophically speaking) and that I could get where I wanted to go. I’ve tried to be the same kind of teacher, first with my students, and now with my clients.

This is me seeing a landscape. Some of the water is clearer than the rest, and one can travel through these complicated waters if one is careful. See what I did there? So clever. (This picture funded by Iceland’s Department of Tourism). (Not really).

Testimonials

The thing that really stands out about Professor Blackman is his ability to foster class discussion. He is really down to earth and has a great sense of humor, and encourages (not forces; encourages) students to add their thoughts to the discussion. He is one of the most memorable professors I’ve had because he does a fantastic job of making everybody feel comfortable participating, and also because he’s generally a memorable person, in a really good way.

This course contributed to my understanding of the course subject. Many of the subjects are super controversial and so they’re often not spoken about in an intellectual manner. Since this class was philosophical in its core, it promoted a really safe and intuitive space to ask questions and present ideas. I learned a lot more about other viewpoints that I never even considered before.

I think he is a wonderful teacher who gets the needs and wants of his students. I love the added humor; it makes the classroom atmosphere so much more enjoyable and I feel that he built a rapport with the students that I loved.

Reid is an awesome professor. He fosters a great classroom environment. Every class discussion is enjoyable, fun, and actually very intellectually stimulating. Reid has a way of making everyone actually engage in the material, and peaks everyone’s interest in it. I am not sure how he is able to have such a fun environment, while still getting so much done each class, but he is by far my favorite professor.
